Screen Printing - Exposing a Screen
After the screen has been coated and allowed to thoroughly dry, grab your positive and lets make a stencil. Let's discuss how this process works first. The screen is now sensitive to light... like film. When it is hit by light, the emulsion coating gets hard. Wherever your the light does not hit, it stays relatively soft and will wash off with water. The hardened areas, where the light hit, will not wash off, making a stencil. What we will do is lay your positive over top of your screen and expose it with some bright light. The areas of the positive that are black will not allow light to pass through, keeping the emulsion soft while the rest of the areas harden because the light hits it.
